Ahaz W. Bryan age 50 was the son of Ahaz Bryan and Mary J. (Polly) Webb. The elder Ahaz was the son of Thomas Bryan Jr. and Susannah. As such, the elder Ahaz was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan. Mary J. Jones age 38 was the second wife of Ahaz W. Bryan. Mary was the mother of the younger children starting with James. The mother of the older children was Elizabeth Jane Burnside, who was the first wife of Ahaz W. Bryan. |

Rachel Florence Ballew age 18 married William Ahaz Bryan on 12 Dec 1879. They weren't living together in the 1880 census. I'm not sure why, but my current theory is that Rachel was about to have a baby and had moved home so that her mother could help her with the baby. Rachel was the daughter of Benjamin Hilance Ballew and Elizabeth Lyon. William Ahaz Bryan was the son of Thomas Wilson Bryan and Elizabeth Jane White, and the grandson of Ahaz Bryan and Mary J. (Polly) Webb. Ahaz was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan. |

Thomas Ephraim (Ephraim) Bryan married Harriet Ann Pickett on 31 Dec 1875 in Mercer County. |

Elizabeth Jane (Jane) White was the widow of Thomas Wilson Bryan. I can't explain why her initials were listed here as "A. J." rather than "E. J.". Thomas Wilson Bryan was the son of Ahaz Bryan and Mary J. (Polly) Webb, and the grandson of Thomas Bryan Jr. and Susannah. Thomas Jr. was the brother of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan. The 25 year old son was William Ahaz Bryan. He was married in 1879 to Rachel Florence Ballew. Rachel was living with her parents in the 1880 census rather than with her husband (see dwelling number 46 above). The daughter Lavesta Jane Bryan age 20 married Christopher Columbus McReynolds. I do not know why Lavesta was not living with her husband. Her first child was born in Dec 1880, so perhaps she was living with her mother while awaiting the birth of the child. |
